The company was founded in San Juan in 1978 as a partnership — Lucy López Roig & Associates. Inspired by the example of their mentor, Dr. Carlos Albizu Miranda, the founding partners aspired to provide culturally relevant psychological services to the Puerto Rican community. They shared core values of excellence, professional ethics and openness to collaboration with other professional fields. From the beginning, they promoted a dynamic exchange of knowledge and practice between the fields of clinical and industrial/organizational psychology.
Over the following years, the company evolved and grew, providing a broad range of clinical and consulting services. In 1999, it was incorporated as Lucy López Roig EAP, Inc. (LLR-EAP).
During the past 40 years, LLR-EAP has worked with hundreds of organizations in Puerto Rico, including private enterprise, government agencies, schools, non-profit and religious institutions and centers of higher education. It has also provided psychological counseling and evaluation services to thousands of children and adults.
Throughout its history, LLR-EAP has promoted quality of work-life and community mental health initiatives. It has created innovative services for students, parents and teachers in public and private schools in Puerto Rico, including programs for the prevention of drug abuse and violence.
The company’s pioneering work in the development of Employee Assistance Programs in Puerto Rico has had a significant impact on the growth of the local EAP industry. LLR-EAP’s service models continue to evolve in order to meet the ongoing changes and challenges of the Puerto Rican workplace.
